Finance for Non-Financial Managers Course Outline

“I was dreading this because I hate money matters – but it was very enjoyable and informative.”  Dan Evans

“I’ll feel much more confident talking to the Finance people now.”  Andrew Buckland

“Presenter had a very practical and friendly style, which made it easy for us to raise queries.”  Ian Laurence

“It was related to our situation as well as external companies, which made a potentially dull subject very interesting.”  SallyWoodford

In all organisations, managers increasingly have responsibility, and often, accountability for the financial performance of their team, department or division. Whilst technical skill and expertise in your chosen field will have been acquired through training and experience, rarely does this training include awareness and understanding of the financial aspects of business.

We have developed a finance for non-financial managers one-day programme designed to introduce managers to the key principles of financial accounting, understanding key financial statements and breaking through the financial jargon barrier.

Each event may be tailored so the case studies reflect your business and any specific issues you wish to address, for example, making use of internal Management Information where appropriate.

Who should attend?

If you're a Manager who has a high degree of technical knowledge and skills related to your specific discipline but are now taking responsibility for, for example, controlling and managing budgets, business plans, revenue and expenditure, or assessing financial viability in the case of capital expenditure. Attend this event if you:

Have responsibility or accountability for financial performance
Want to develop your contribution to your organisation’s financial health
Would benefit from a better understanding of financial concepts
Want to feel more confident in discussion with financial specialists

How delegates will benefit

This workshop will introduce you to the fundamental principles of financial accounting, to enable you to understand and make effective use of financial information. You will:

Examine key financial statements: Balance Sheet, Profit & Loss Account and Cash Flow Statement
Understand and interpret key financial information
Understand the differences between cash flow, revenue and capital expenditure, and the implications of each
 Scrutinise different types of costs

Analyse variance in budgets and take remedial action
Perform confidently in a financial environment

Training Approach

This workshop is uses a combination of trainer input, knowledge sharing with interactive syndicate work and case studies.
Group size is kept to a maximum of 12 to facilitate sharing of experience amongst the delegates

As an independent training consultant, his financial training experience has covered groups of managers in a wide range of commercial and public sector organisations, including banks, insurance companies, transport logistics, print media, IT, food distribution and metals manufacture.
