Course Outline
This course will focus on the particular challenges to general insurance firms presented by the limited Training and Competence (T&C) rules, the overarching competence standard for all staff and the shift to a principles, outcomes based approach. Training and competence failure is frequently a root cause of major FSA enforcement actions, where there have been many cases of breaches of Principle 2 for Businesses: "A firm must conduct its business with due skill, care and diligence." Clearly, firms must be able to evidence effective controls for the competence of all staff.
It is designed to help those engaged in setting and managing T&C standards to ensure a proportionate approach which satisfies regulatory expectations through aligning training and competence with the company’s strategy, operations and performance management. It will go beyond a regulatory ‘tick box’ approach.
In summary the aim is to create a practical risk and outcomes based approach to the management of T&C, with Key Performance Indicators to monitor and report on its effectiveness.
