Professional Examinations

Speech by Amanda Bowe, Head of Department, Retail Distribution
Financial Services Distribution Summit
4th September 2007

"The paper (Retail Distribution Review) makes it clear that we are talking about higher professional standards here, not just higher qualifications. For example, we have focused on chartered or certified because they are the standards familiar to many in the market." "We want to see the right balance between the qualifications required to do the job, and the experience and knowledge gained whilst doing it."

Over the years Corporate Training Partnerships has helped
people from all sectors of the industry to study and pass their examinations. We do this by offering different approaches to learning, revision and practising examination papers. Not
everyone learns in the same way and the different Institutes that provide examinations have different approaches to both the style content and quality of the learning material they deliver and the way in which papers are set.

For practitioners

The Financial Services Skills Council maintains a list of the appropriate examinations to meet the Financial Services Authority rules. These are, in the main, delivered by the following Institutes and you can folow the links to see the examination options depending upon the industry you work in.

We offer three different core courses to provide organisations with the intensity of study that they consider will best meet the speed with which they need people to achieve the qualification the level of tuition needed by staff

Intensive study programme

This 5 day residential course is ideal for people who feel more comfortable with learning the syllabus by being tutored rather than reading text. It is also appropriate when passing the examination quickly is important. This approach rarely fails to produce a first time pass.
Booster programme

Specifically designed for those who have been unable to devote sufficient time to pre-examination study and who require a boost to both their knowledge and examination technique before sitting the examination. Normally a 2 day event.
Pre examination workshop

This event is designed to provide revision of particularly difficult areas of the syllabus and delegates will need to have studied the examination texts. Attending this event increases the likelihood of a first time pass considerably. Essential for those who have no recent examination experience and require assistance to apply their knowledge effectively in the examination.

Whether you are aiming for the benchmark qualification or want to achieve the full Diploma, our highly qualified and experienced trainers combine their tested training techniques with a stimulating learning environment which helps delegates to recall what they have learnt when sitting the examinations.

Your choice of approach depends upon a number of factors, how many people are to attain the qualification, what balance of home study and tuition is needed, how quickly they must pass and last but not least, cost.

Talk to us about your needs and we will tailor an approach whether you have 2 people or 2,000.

For Professionals in the Compliance and Risk Functions

Many people in these functions have a professional qualification in Law or Accounting. These bring a valuable insight into the interpretation of rules and the audit aspects of monitoring. However, compliance is a difficult role that requires a mix of knowledge and skills.

The Financial Services Skills Council has researched and set standards for the role of compliance in the industry and the Compliance Institute is working on a qualification that will cater for those in the indusrty so watch this space.
