Course outline and objectives

In December 2022 the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) introduced new rules and guidance with the objective of improving the UK's Appointed Representatives ("AR") regime. This was supported by the establishment of a new AR department to give focus on supervisory efforts. On 29th September 2023 the FCA published insights from these supervisory efforts. In doing so, the regulator reiterated its expectations of principals and their ARs.

The purpose of this workshop is to help persons whose firms act as principals to ARs or Introducer Appointed Representatives ("IAR"). The workshop will also cover core provisions of the wider regulatory environment that commonly apply to AR's activities, for example: the Consumer Duty and financial promotions rules. The trainer will offer practical steps which can be taken to implement robust AR supervision arrangements.

Who will benefit?

This workshop is intended for those who are new to the topic or wish to refresh or develop their understanding of the evolving agenda. This will include persons acting for current and aspirant principals in supervising ARs, for example senior managers, directors, compliance and risk professionals. The programme is equally relevant for those working for firms which engage full or introducer ARs.

This focused course can be tailored to suit your business. Topics may include, but are not limited to:

  • What the regulator expects from firms acting as principals to ARs
  • The latest developments in the AR supervisory agenda
  • Developing an effective working relationship with regulators and your ARs
  • Case studies based on real enforcement cases brought by the FCA
  • Benchmarking the progress of your business
